My Directing Process

I have directed on three shows: Kamp Koral, Let's Go Luna! and Middlemost Post.

Below is an example of an episode of Middlemost Post and what I did to shepherd the process from script to final animatic.

Logline: Parker, a cloud who loves to spread joy, contracts Tie-Dye-Eye and instead spreads his affliction to the whole town, turning every citizen into a Tie-Dye Eyed Zombie.

Rough in-progress storyboard by Luc Latulippe. ^

  • We would start by going over the script together to discuss stand-out moments, address questions and brainstorm ideas.

  • Check-ins were scheduled to go over progress and discuss new ideas or punch-ups to existing ideas.

  • I would provide redline notes on any of my new directions.

Notes could include:

  • Removing  or changing the order of panels

  • Making adjustments to staging, acting or action

  • Outlining brand new ideas or directions

Some notes are given in discussion and some are provided with thumbnail drawings and reference where helpful.

Below are examples of new ideas I sketched out for a sequence that needed some excitement.

The same sections completed by Luc Latulippe with revisions/additions by Sara Jerzykowski, Joann Chang, and myself.

  • Budget considerations were important to limit the number of new BGs, props and characters.

  • I proposed these asset solutions to lowers costs by redressing existing Harmony character rigs with new eyes.

Check out how these two sequences turned out! And watch the whole episode, "Tie Dye Eye" on Paramount+
